No Regrets Workshops

Phenostream is happy to announce a new DIY event series at 'No Regrets' restaurant in the heart of Toronto's IT sector. Teaming with young tech-savvy professionals, this area south-east of King and Dufferin is a perfect local for our 'not a toy' robotics sessions. Scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 6:30 till 8:30, these free and informal gatherings are a great chance to pick-up new skills and apply your professional schema in new and interesting ways. No advanced notice necessary but we always welcome feedback.

Workshops at Phenostream (non-regrettable)

We don't just supply parts, we help you make then into robots. A kit purchase from Phenostream comes with free hands-on instruction and use of our facilities.  To all for whom this is a geographically practicality i.e. in the greater Toronto area, such practical assistance represents tremendous value. Whether you're building something for a school project or just following your personal interests, you'll be sure to get satisfying results and build life-long skills by attending our workshops.

Workshops are held every Sunday beginning at 1pm as per the following schedule:

Structures

1:00pm ► 2:00pm ( no purchase necessary )

This is where you learn to make things with BuildPlates. Apart from producing a platform for follow-up sessions, you will learn general methods by which you can design and construct original robotic and model-scale architectural structures for years to come. Attendants are welcome to continue building while other course segments are conducted.

Wiring and Electronics

2:00pm ►3:00pm

Once you've got some sort of structure you'll want to populate it with electronics and wire it up. Everything you'll need to know about connecting and testing parts electrically is covered in this session. We'll also expand on electronics theory of direct applicability.

Microcontroller programming (ASM)

3:00pm ► 4:00pm

With robots built, wired, and ready to go, we'll show you how to zap their PIC microcontrollers with code. All participants should bring their laptops so we can setup our programming environments in a standard way and be sure the process can be repeated at home without complication. To save time, it's best to install the latest version of MPLAB before you come.

PocketPC programming (C#)

4:00pm ► 5:00pm

Our robots system does not require the use of a Mobile Windows device but it's sure nice to have. Adding a PocketPC to your robot vastly expands its capabilities and provides a great opportunity for us to apply our high-level programming skills to something fun and interesting. You'll more than likely want to attend a few of these PPC programming sessions because there's a lot to learn.

Everyone is welcome at Phenostream but we do ask that you notify us by email that you're coming so we can be adequate prepared.
